In August 2016, the Lung Cancer Screening Program at USC teamed up with KHEIR clinic, a community-based health clinic located in Koreatown, Los Angeles, to provide 100 eligible individuals with a free lung cancer screening low-dose CT. This program was further sponsored by Lions Club International, which supported the opportunity to provide a high-risk, Korean majority population with free scans to detect lung cancer.

After months of planning and marketing through press conferences and media exposure in Korean radio station and newspapers, the KHEIR clinic referred the first group of patients to Keck Medical Center of USC on August 20.

Our partnership provided transportation for groups of patients to receive their lung cancer screening scans on designated Saturdays over the next six months. KHEIR and Keck Medicine of USC’s team of expert radiologists and screening program staff continue to provide and coordinate any necessary follow-ups resulting from the results of the initial screening scans.

These photos were taken with the patients on one of the Saturday screenings, together with Dr. Christopher Lee, director of the screening program, and several staff members from both USC and KHEIR. This has been a very successful partnership, and we look forward to continued opportunities to work with KHEIR!
